For Masande Maliti (25) of “Karoo Fresh Eggs”, the egg farming business was never something he saw as more than just a hobby.

Little did he know the potential that was carried by his “hobby” of the produce from 50 chickens until Mainstream Renewable Power (MRP) opened room for empowerment.

Through the services of Tushiyah Advisory Services, one of the leading implementers of ESD in the Country, Masande was fortunate to benefit from the SMME Development and Training project in the Noupoort region.

Speaking to the clearly over the moon Masande, we learned that before the project, him and his father were operating from home, driven by the love of the craft. Through word of mouth heard about the opportunity to be part of the project which he gladly joined. That decision has since proven to be one of the best moves he has ever made because to date, he has seen an estimated 30% growth in sales in 2017 as well as profit margins, so great that he now employs two full time employees outside his family. He has now re-organised his business leaving only packaging still done from home and his now 475 chickens moved to another separate location. Talk about a quantum leap!

“The business coaching has opened my eyes and allowed me to think bigger, wider and outside the box. It has also given me the right tools to be more strategic and focussed on the goals of the business” he says.

Asked if the sessions have been helpful on a personal level, he says “Life skills coaching with my mentor has shown me how to map out my future and how to be patient in pursuit of the goals I set for myself”

He cites coaching and mentoring, financial assistance and building and implementing infrastructure growth as one of the great benefits to have come because of his involvement in the project.

“Karoo Fresh Eggs” is a name you should remember because it is about to be a great influencer in the farming Industry.
